Same-Sex Marriage in the Philippines - Ryan and David Gay Wedding

Watch: Gay Wedding Trailer Will Make You Teary-Eyed

Lesbian or gay wedding in Metro Manila

A gay couple from the Philippines made a video trailer for their upcoming wedding in Tagaytay this coming August.

They even made a website for their upcoming wedding, twogroomstwogardens.com – supposedly a pun on the venue name, which is Two Gardens.

The same-sex wedding, or “holy union“, will be officiated by Open Table MCC – an LGBT+ affirming Christian church in the Philippines.

According to their website, it was March of 2015 when David transferred to Metro Manila from Cagayan De Oro. Coincidentally, David moved into the building where Ryan was living. They knew each other through a dating app. They were both online and were both looking for company, so their story began with a knock on the door.

David and Ryan, though opposite poles in character, had a plethora of similarities. Ryan is a persona dominated by the left side of the brain—organized, calculated, and goal-oriented. David, on the other hand, is ruled by the right side of the brain—chaotic, artistic, and melodramatic. But, their two worlds met at a place of common interests: food, travel, music, good wine, and a good conversation. It was a quick connection, a friendship began.

Labor Day is one of the most popular holidays that many people look forward to every year. Ryan, having just returned from a trip in the US, sent David a text saying, “Hi, kumusta ka? What are your plans for Labor Day?” David, with eyes brightened in excitement after seeing a message from Ryan, said, “No plans yet. How about you?” Ryan, longing to enjoy David’s company again, asked him, “Want to go on a long drive to Baguio?” Without a second thought, David answered, “Ok. I’ll go.”

July 8, 2015. It was the day after Ryan came back to Manila from celebrating his birthday in Boracay. He went out on a dinner date with David at the Heat in Shangri-La, EDSA. David, composing himself and gathering all courage, asked Ryan through a note:

I want to begin a journey with you. Let’s start a lifetime of endless adventures and learnings. Will you come with me? Will you be mine? I promise you, it will never get boring.

The number “8” holds very dear to Ryan and David. Besides representing the infinite-ness of their love for each other, this digit is also a reminder of the day when the universe destined them to be. That is why Ryan and David chose their wedding to be on 81818, so that in the memories of their family and friends, that number will forever be associated to the story of the two grooms at two gardens.

Ryan and David, courageous and unabashed, decided to pursue a union ceremony — though no legal bearing in this country — in order to spend uninterrupted quality time with their most cherished families and friends. This day is to honor all those who have unconditionally supported them and showed them unbiased acceptance — a very select guest list.
