The British Embassy in the Philippines celebrated Valentine’s Day by officiating a same-sex wedding. And it’s not the first time the British Embassy conducted a same-sex wedding. It is in fact their 87th.
“Love is in the air! Congratulations to Mark and Richard who were married by Ambassador Daniel Pruce on #ValentinesDay. We wish you a lifetime of love and happiness,” reads the post of the British Embassy on its Facebook page.
There was no fire or comet from outer space. The British Embassy remains standing. Love has been celebrated and recognized once more. Open Table MCC commends the British embassy for recognizing LGBT+ rights and marriage equality.
Same-sex marriage was legalized in Britain in 2014, and according to Wikipedia, the UK “provides one of the highest degrees of liberty in the world for its LGBT communities.”
Open Table MCC also officiates ceremonious same-sex weddings in the Philippines. While we are striving for marriage equality in the Philippines, it is currently the alternative for LGBTQ+ couples who want a ceremonious wedding despite having no legal bearing.
