Watch: Journey of Gay Couple Who Met on Facebook

Lesbian or gay wedding in Metro Manila

Love truly knows no borders. And for that matter, even gender or race.

Don Mueller originally met Oriel Briguela online via Facebook.

Don is a member of Metropolitan Community Church or MCC, under Founders MCC in Los Angeles, California. Oriel is also an MCC member in the Philippines, under MCC Quezon City (now known as Open Table MCC). It’s also worth mentioning that Oriel is the uncle of Awra Briguela, an actor from the popular local shows Ang Probinsyano and Mga Batang Poz.

“We both believe that being so far apart has actually helped us build the quality of our relationship even better. So often as gay men, we tend to focus on our ‘physical’ relationship (i.e. sex), and we neglect actually getting to know each other… We are not only boyfriends. We are also best friends,” says Don.

Five years ago, as of this publication, Don surprised Oriel in the middle of the Sunday church service at MCC Quezon City. He had the ring hidden in his sock.

Oriel said yes, and they eventually had two wedding ceremonies — one here in the Philippines, which was a “Holy Union“, a wedding ceremony with no legal bearing; and another one in the United States, which was a legal wedding.

The couple is now happily living their married life in Los Angeles, California.

If you are a same-sex couple / LGBT+ couple and you are not able to legally marry each other due to the laws of the Philippines not having a same-sex or marriage equality law yet, you might be interested to have a ceremonious wedding instead, or a 'Holy Union', under Open Table Metropolitan Community Church.
